HLTF Task Force Co-Chair and former President of Finland Tarja Halonen has been appointed alternate co-chair of the UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Advisory Group for Every Woman Every Child. The new advisory group, headed by the President of Chile Michelle Bachelet and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia Hailemariam Dessalegn, will advise the Secretary-General, guide the transition of the Every Woman Every Child movement and the newly launched Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health, and link to other relevant advocacy efforts related to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The group will report on progress and challenges and provide recommendations on financing, accountability and implementation of Every Woman Every Child and the Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health. The Global Strategy is a leading partnership and implementation platform for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and targets related to maternal and newborn mortality and health.
