HLTF Task Force Member Leymah Gbowee of Liberia has been appointed by the UN Secretary-General to be one of 17 advocates for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Sustainable Development Goals Advocacy Group is mandated to support the Secretary-General’s efforts to spur momentum and action toward achieving the SDGs, including through working with partners across civil society, government, academia and the private sector to generate new ideas to promote implementation.

The group is co-chaired by Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama and Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, and includes as members Queen Mathilde of Belgium, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Graça Machel, pop music star Shakira, football star Leo Messi, the economist Jeffrey Sachs, among others.
